![]() ![]() So I stopped working on the plot and started working on the characters – fleshing out the four characters I had, giving them personalities, and figuring out their relationships to each other. ![]() I didn’t know where I wanted the plot to go. A few details later and soon enough, Riley Jay, Sergio, Ian, and Jen were trying to find a new place to live after their last city was bombed.Īwesome, I now had a first scene and a setup for a backstory! But that does not a novel make, and this is where I got stuck. That led to me wondering who was in the truck, why they were driving, and how they came to be driving on that road. For Jericho, I couldn’t get the image of a white pickup truck driving through a barren desert out of my head. My entry into the stories that I write can come in many different forms. I’ll be talking about my process when writing Jericho, what I’d wish I’d known writing my first book, and offering up some of my tips and tricks in the hopes you can benefit from them. ![]() (This is the first entry in a 3-part series on writing stories. ![]()
